The Party for Alcoholics

Monday afternoon we had our office party. The party was held at the hotel down the street in the Javelina Cantina. It isn't a bad little place. The party was actually in a little alcove/waiting area that had couches. When we got there it didn't look like the staff was prepared or ready for us. It almost looked like they had no idea we were even coming. I brought my gift along but I never told the person in charge that I was bringing something. So as we were watching people arrive we saw all these fancy gift baskets and presents coming in and I chickened out of the Chinese Gift Exchange. I didn't know people were actually going all out for this thing so I figured I'll just keep my own gift and save myself from doing any social interaction.

Once everyone was there they started the exchange and I asked my friend if I could put her in the gift exchange since she is Asian. She laughed at me, she has a good sense of humor so I knew I wasn't offending her. The big hit of the exchange was all the booze. People had brought in Bailey's and other assorted liquors. The most frequently stolen item was booze. Now I know why they are all crazy, they are all boozehounds.

Before, during and after the crazy exchange the serious boozehounds were already at the bar drinking. Yes, we were allowed to buy our own drinks. I got a nice free water. We finally got our big gift from the boss and it was a team gift. Our team got a basket of assorted teas and a tea maker thing. Its like a coffee maker only it makes tea. Kind of nifty. I guess I'll need to start drinking tea. I asked if someone could bring a tea set and some crumpets so I can actually say I'm having tea and crumpets. Then we can all speak with British accents. It would be awesome.

Ok so about an hour-ish later people took off. No big whoop for an office party. No one dancing on the bar. No one flashing the camera.

I came home with my gift (a reed diffuser) and I put it back under my little christmas tree.

Oh well, I need to rest up for this Saturday. It's the Mexican gift exhange. This is where I help my mom make tamales so that I can eat them later.

Wow, that is a great story. That's the American dream right there, right? Um, let me ask you, is there a term besides ‘Mexican' that you prefer? Something less offensive?

a reed diffuser is one those little jars with the smelly goo and you put those sticks in it. The sticks absorb the goo and deodorizes/smells up your house.

You know Dave, you really need to use MLA format when using a quote.

Which quote? Because the first one I just copied and pasted. And the second one is more of a catch phrase then it is a quote at this point.
