Random stuff to blog about

Big news of the day....I got a job offer at one of the hospitals in town as a buyer.  The down side is that it's only temporary. I'll be filling in for a lady that will soon be on maternity leave.  We'll see where this job takes me....hopefully to a full time somewhat permanent job.

Tomorrow will be my last day at Old Navy.  It can't come soon enough.  I wish I had more money to use the discount to my advantage but that's about all that I'll miss.  Some people made it sound like it was a fun place to work...um yeah I didn't really see that. I guess it's only fun there when you don't have any customers.

Today was fun though.  I found out just how much people don't like to read.  I had two customers today get mad at me over sale signs. One lady was looking at a table that had various sweaters and underneath the table on another shelf there were a few stacks of corduroy pants.  I asked her if she needed help and she said she found the size she needed then asked me if the pants were 75% off.  I scanned the tag and it had some percentage off but not the 75% off.  She then said in a huffy voice "well then why are they on the table that has a 75% sign".  I read the sign to her...." 75% off assorted sweaters" no mention about corduroy pants.  Then probably 10 minutes later another lady stopped at a table I was working on that had henley tank tops and jeans.  The lady stops to look at the jeans and says "are these 40% off?"  I told her no...that the jeans were regular price.  She then asked me why the sign said 40% off....I then read the sign to her "40% off henley tank tops"....I should find a job where I just read sale signs to people.

Other than reading signs  to customers most of my job at the ON involves folding and refolding clothes and putting stuff in the right place. I have come to hate the customers that come in  and pick up a shirt, look at it, throw it down pick up the next shirt, look at it and then throw it back down.  I also hate the customers that that try to fold the clothes and instead just make a big ball and shove it in the place they think they got it from.  When they trained us how to fold clothes they told us they do a 3-second fold.  You shake the item out, look at like items and how they are folded and within 2-3 easy flips you have a folded shirt or pant.  It's really not hard.  I also hate the people that go around shopping and then all of sudden say "oh nevermind...I can't continue shopping here...I'll just leave this stuff here on this convenient table of boys t-shirts.  Yeah...I tried giving the evil glare to customers while I'm folding the same damn shirt for the billionth time but most of them don't notice.

Yay Go Christmas!!!!!

Even though this isn't the greatest holiday season I've ever had I still love Christmas!  It's definitely more fun when going away on vacation or when kids are involved but I still like it.  I wish I had more of an artsy fartsy side to me so I could make stuff (like with a sewing machine) but I enjoy buying stuff for other people.  Zac may not like me spending money we don't have but he doesn't know about my secret sugar daddy.

I had to work today at the Old Navy.  It was actually a very pleasant shift.  People were nice, the store wasn't packed or crazy.  I helped one guy out with his shopping and he tipped me $20!  Sweet!

And this morning I thought things were going to really suck when my laptop started acting funny. But Zac had the apple geniuses take a look and they fixed it! Yay Go Apple Geniuses!

Soon all you whiners and complainers that hate Christmas can go on to hate something else you old farts!

No more job countdown

I hate you job market.

Y U NO WANT TO HIRE ME? (insert ugly face drawing here)  (I will not go and find it) (I hate the word meme)

I have officially applied to over 20 positions.  I had gone as far as interviewing twice at one position with high hopes for an offer and then two days ago I read a post that the hospital group I applied for had eliminated 200 positions.  Bleh...

I'm going back to Walgreens...they probably don't want me.

Today is the anniversary that our house was broken into.  I have Daisy patrolling the property at regular intervals throughout the day with a shotgun that I engineered for her to shoot intruders.  I also got the neighborhood stray cats to work as snipers.  I have them stationed on the roof and the pine tree on the side of the house.  I also booby trapped the backyard with Daisy poop.  I also plan to booby trap the the doors and windows in case Joe  Pesci and Daniel Stern are in the neighborhood.

Oh and while I'm in this Christmas holiday cheery mood...do you know what I hate right now? People that post on facebook if their friends want a Christmas card to send their addresses.

Update****Daisy has just alerted me to some suspicious activity in the street. There appears to be a dog sniffing around. No doubt that dog is part of the enemy camp looking for weaknesses to my fortress of solitude.  Daisy has successfully made it loud and clear that we will not be robbed again.  There you go dog, go tell your master.

Back to my previous rant. I will not request a Christmas card from you.  If you have the time and enjoy sending out cards I will gladly open them and post them on my wall.  If you ask me personally for my address I will gladly give it.  It just seems so odd and annoying that people are posting that now. What if you are the type that wants to have 500+ friends and the weirdos and people you don't even know ask for a card.  Do you just ignore these people or still send a card?  How would Jesus feel if you ignored these people?  How many cards or photocards did you buy that you have enough to send to facebook friends that you don't have addresses for?

Just to let my readers know...I did not do Christmas cards this year.  I don't have any stamps and the money that I would spend on stamps is better spent on soda.  Instead I might post a boring facebook statement wishing you all Happy Holidays and a Merry Christmas....Or I might not.

Two months of finding another job

I hit the 2 month mark.   I still need a real job.

Zac and I went to my Dad's oncology appointment and so far it sounds like um....the doctors don't quite know yet.

When my dad was in the hospital we heard from Dr. Chen that there were spots on his liver the docs wanted to look closer at. She also told us that his gall bladder was bad and that it "could be" Stage 4 cancer that has spread to his liver and as soon as they could do the biopsy they'd set him up for chemo.  Then another doctor in the hospital  came in and asked if we had heard when the biopsy would be done, when we told him it would be another 3 days he said he would look at what he could do to move that up since the tumors were numerous and big. That was the first time it hit me that spots meant tumors.  Well as we waited for Monday to roll around we found out that he couldn't have the biopsy on Monday because he had taken tylenol for a headache and needed that to be out of his system. So on Tuesday they released him from the hospital.  He was still out of it from the stroke, had no appetite and even though he was home we all know the cancer talk was worrying him.

So we've gone from Stage 4 liver cancer and needing chemo to today's discussion about it possibly being benign or cancer originating in his liver.  As of right now the doctors are still looking for the cancer.

Days 23-29 of finding another job

A whole lotta nothing has happened so far.

We just had some taquitos, the store bought kind, and I made some pico de gallo using the jalapenos from our plants and holy moly those jalapenos were hot.  Normally when buying jalapenos from the grocery store you use one and you might get lucky if it's a little bit hot.  I just used two little jalapenos from our plant and I about choked when I tasted the pico.

As for work I last worked on Sunday for about 4 hours.....and that was it for the week.  I got my new schedule yesterday.  I'm scheduled to work 20 hours...we'll see if I make it to 15 at least.

This coming week will be a little busy. Zac is done with classes just has a couple finals to finish.  I work here and there and we've been invited to my nephew's holiday play at his school.  We've also been asked to babysit on Saturday night.  My dad also gets the results of his biopsy on Tuesday morning and the doctor told my mom someone that speaks English well should be there since the doc has a hard time understanding my mom.  My mom was mad, the doc has an accent of her own so I think it's tough for them to understand each other.  So the doc remembered meeting me in the hospital and asked if I could go too.  Zac and I will go since Zac understood that lady better than I did.  We might as well invite everyone we know just to make sure we all understand each other.

Day 21 and 22 of finding another job

I just got home from my 2.5 hours of work at the ON.  I walked in tonight and the store was trashed.  Because sales weren't good earlier in the week I guess corporate cuts hours throughout the week unless the store beats the daily sales goal.  Each day I worked they were missing sales goals by $3,000-6,000.  Tonight there was 4 of us that went in at 7:30 to close and we barely made a dent. Originally we were scheduled to close at 11pm and clock out at 12am.  Instead we went in at 7:30 closed at 9pm and clocked out at 10pm.  Clothes were thrown around and on the floor as if the place was a flea market. Tomorrow I go back in from 11am to 3pm.  Since Sunday starts the new week they get a bunch of hours again so there was a sign up sheet by the time clock for people that wanted more hours at night to clean up the store.  It seems like this is the constant problem in retail, never enough people working when you need it.  I personally would staff my store with more people Thursday thru Sunday, especially during the holidays and cut hours in the morning if needed.  But what do I know.

Day 20 of finding another job

Dad update: well it seems everything is wrong with him. We visited him tonight and he looked a lot better. He was more alert and was able to talk to us. We noticed he still has a hard time remembering recent events.  So far it sounds like he had a few mini strokes (TIA's) when put all together pretty  much add up to a medium size stroke.  That explains the short term memory loss and confusion.  Now doctors are also talking about cancer so I guess we'll find out more in the next couple of days.  It's still hard to keep it all together but it's harder figuring out how to prepare for what comes next. But to be positive it was a good visit with him tonight.

Today I worked at ON.  The past two times I've worked my hours have been reduced since ON isn't making its daily sales goals.  I just got my schedule for next week and I'm only scheduled for one day.  Thank goodness for unemployment.  Although today I did get to do go-backs.  It was definitely much better than standing around just folding clothes in the same area.  My feet didn't hurt as much.  And as for having to go to the orientation on Monday at DES I got a phone call today that I didn't have to go since I've done everything at One-Stop and since I'm "working" again.  So the lady said she would take me off the list.  Then 10 minutes later I get another phone call from DES telling me the same thing.  I guess the first lady didn't take me off the list or something.  Oh well.
