Jewelry talk is in the air and you can't help but see a stupid Kay Jewelers ad every commercial break. So I started thinking about my tastes in jewelry. I know in fine jewelry my birthstone is my favorite-diamond. In cuts I like princess and emerald. Other stones are beautiful too but I don't like those fabricated rainbow looking stones. I don't really wear much jewelry but I always feel like I don't have any classic pieces to wear on fancy occasions. I'd love some basic diamond studs and someday a diamond tennis bracelet. Some day in the future I would also like a pearl set and not the urban dictionary definition of a pearl necklace. I think a good rule of thumb is if it looks like something Tiffany & Co. would carry I'd probably like it, like the heart keys that are so popular now with all jewelers. With all gemstones I like simple designs, nothing to crazy.
Now if we are talking cheaper jewelry then I'm all for being crazy. I like bangle bracelets but it's hard to get them on your fat hands so usually they have to be a little bigger or have a hinge. I also like cocktail rings. Those are fun to wear when going out.
I also like original and creative pieces that you might find in a little shop on that funky/hippie street in your town or at the street fairs. I love the stuff they have at PopCycle and have bought from DDco Design when I go to the street fairs.
What I don't really like is the cutesy stuff with the animals....except for owls...I'm not sure why but I think owls on jewelry are cute. I also don't like the big hearts and what drives me crazy is that open heart necklace by Jane Seymour. She makes it look like it took a genius to come up with that design.
And just so I don't feel like I'm some materialistic snob who only wants expensive jewelry I would totally rather have the cooler cheaper stuff made out of recycled stuff. I mean really...how many times do I dress up fancy?
