part dos

We went camping!

On Friday the 23rd we made our way to Madera Canyon for a quick weekend camping trip. A couple days before a storm rolled in dumping some snow in the mountains. Even though Madera Canyon is lower elevation than the Catalina's it still got some good snow.

We were lucky enough to get to spots across from each other and we set up camp. My parents, aunt, uncle, and grandmother had one campsite while zac and I and my brother and his family had the other campsite. Friday night we dined on quesadillas, green chile with porkchops, and beans. That night was cold. No one slept well. The next morning the senior citizens were ready to go home. Note to self: Don't take an elderly woman camping! While I was somewhat disappointed that the first night didn't go well I wasn't about to get upset. The senior citizens decided to leave the campsite after lunch that day and go back to Marana. Good thing Madera Canyon isn't too far from town. For breakfast we had chorizo with potatoes, eggs and beans. After breakfast we went on a hike from hell because it was all up hill! It was great hike when it ended but oh man I paid for that hike dearly! For lunch we had steaks and pork chops, corn on the cob and some of the hottest jalapenos I've ever had!!!
After lunch the old people were just about ready to head out when my mom brought out a cake! Sunday was my mom's birthday so we celebrated both of our birthdays.

We said goodbye to the oldies. In the meantime my SIL had to go into Green Valley to get some diapers and while she was gone she picked up some breakfast food and made a couple phone calls to some friends to come join us for the night.

We entertained ourselves playing loteria and setting up our campsite better. For dinner Saturday night we made buffalo burgs, regular burgs and hotdogs. We ate like kings. Around 8pm our friends made it and we had more fun talking around the campfire. Poor Saul was waiting for the smores and when he finally got one he fell asleep sitting in his camping chair! Payment for that hike was due and my knees were screaming on fire! oh that arthritis! I think I finally went to bed around 10pm. At some point I heard wood falling on the ground and a drum?

In the morning my brother started getting the breakfast and coffee going. As we all slowly started to wake up I went in search of ibuprofen when my brother asked me if I had that all along and then it occurred to me that I heard something weird when I was waking up. I heard my brother say "yeah that midol and southern comfort really knocked me out". Turns out midol was all that anyone had the night before. After breakfast we played another few rounds of loteria. Our friends took off and then we slowly started breaking down camp. We didn't leave till the last possible minute on Sunday and not before grilling some chicken for lunch.

Even though the weekend didn't quite work out the way I had hoped for, I still had fun.
