new moon

We just got back from seeing New Moon. Zac was gracious enough to take me and suffer through this movie for me. He must love me.

The photo a little too much? Eh...

I got into the Twilight saga right when the first movie came out. A friend and I went to go check it out and not knowing anything about it and having heard very little about the books I enjoyed it. After the movie I read the books and I'll have to admit it was kind of difficult to get through them at times. They just didn't hold my attention to read them fast enough. I sat on the 3rd book forever just because I couldn't get into it. Overall, I enjoyed the series and was somewhat excited to see New Moon. I think I was more excited to see the movie so I wouldn't be left out of the loop. I started late with the Harry Potter phenomenon because I was too stubborn to like what other people liked.

New Moon is a lot better than Twilight. I did not like Kristen Stewart at all in Twilight, I found her overacting to be quite ridiculous. I think they really toned down her eye and face twitching in New Moon. New Moon was slower paced since in the book she spends half the year depressed. I rather enjoyed the parts with the wolves. I wanted more of that. My only other beef was that they left too much of the book in the movie. Usually I hate when they leave stuff out of the movie. A lot of stuff could have been cut but it seems like certain sayings and moments in the book stayed in the movie even though it really didn't move the story along. My favorite scene was when Bella wipes out on her motorcycle and Jacob catches up to her to find her head bleeding so he tears his shirt off giving us an eyeful of "beautiful" Jacob!

I've been thinking about this Twilight thing and why guys don't care for it and why girls swoon over it. Lets face it ladies, we've been brought up with fairy tales where the ordinary girl gets her prince charming even though he may be a monster. Just take Beauty and the Beast. Essentially this is what Twilight is but put in some teenage angst and some vampires and werewolves. Ladies are suckers for romance and stories where the plain jane gets her man. We also have a soft spot for the worst kind of guys for us. These stories and movies reinforce the "bad boy" image and that we can "fix" a guy as long as we love them enough. I think monsters are about as bad boy as you can get. I look back and this is why I love Angel. The vampire with a soul.

Just recently I tried to rewatch Twilight and after some technical difficulties I just didn't care about watching it again. I started listening to the audiobooks and again I was brought back to the books that couldn't hold my attention. The writing is basic and is pretty much brain crack. A quick fix. While listening to Twilight on audiobook I was reading Pride and Prejudice and watching the movies. Elizabeth is Bella and Mr. Darcy is Edward. You start out thinking Mr. Darcy is horrible and eventually you learn that Mr. Darcy is the most decent man of them all. After reading that story and laughing and sobbing like a maniac along with the miniseries I just couldn't see the Twilight saga in the same light. Regardless, I'll still watch the rest of the movies and I'll continue on with the audiobooks and I'll get excited for Eclipse. Now I'm thinking that New Moon and Elipse should have been collapsed into one movie, because really I just want to see some imprinting happen!
