Every now and then I get bored with stuff and need something out of the ordinary to perk me up. Work has been crazy with new systems working and not working. Talk of camping on facebook and at work filled my head with marvelous ideas of a relaxing weekend with good food and cool temps. At the beginning of September we planned to take a camping trip the weekend of the 25th. I was excited for the trip and was overly anxious for the weekend to arrive. Then because life loves to mess with your head my mom tells me my dad went to the doctor because he complained of horrible debilitating cramps. The doctor told him he had aneurysms in his leg and stomach and he needed to have surgery. Now that my dad is retired he is on medicare and so he had to wait for clearance to go onto the next step. Even though you hope everything will be fine you just can't help but think of the what ifs.
The following week I kept in contact with my mom to find out more about the surgery and any other news. In the meantime, Zac was having scheduling issues at work and then he was called up for interviews at the UA. While I was ecstatic for Zac I was worried for my dad.
Then the week of the 21st started. Monday I called my mom to check up on things and nonchalantly she tells me she went to the hospital that day. It took me a bit to figure out what she just said. She thought she had broken her arm while throwing out trash at work. Turns out she is ok and has really bad tendonitis. Monday and Tuesday Zac had his interviews and if you read his blog you all know he accepted the job offer he got. Yay Zac! So at this point one part of my anxiety was taken care of but did I mention that my own body shut down as well? Stomach aches, headaches and my left eyelid wouldn't stop twitching all week. Thursday I took the day off from work and Zac didn't have class so we headed over to the hospital around 9:30 am. My dad was in at 8:30 am and he didn't get into surgery until 1:30 pm. Around 5:30 the doctor came out and told us the surgery went well and that we'd be able to see him an hour later. We didn't actually get to see him until a little before 7:30 pm. My mom and I saw him first and he was still out of it but the nurse told us when he woke up from the anesthesia he asked "where's the bar?" While we were visiting with him he said he wanted a burger!
He was released on Saturday and has been doing well at home. Sunday we went to visit him and he was doing his laps around the house using a walker.
And we still went camping. What a crazy week!
