Day 7--White on Rice (2009)

The first question I asked Mr. Katohater was if this was one of those foreign films where I have to read and actually pay attention.  Reading subtitles means I can't look at all those funny cat and dog pics on the internets.

He told me it was in English so I said "ok fine...put it on".  Opening scene subtitles...what!  While the movie had subtitles on and off throughout the movie it really was a funny movie and yes I paid attention to it.

The movie centers around 40 year old divorcee named Jimmy.  He lives with his sister, sleeps on the top bunk of his nephew's bed and he tries to hit on his brother in law's niece.   Jimmy thinks he's in love with this girl and fails miserably trying to get her attention.  In the end, he finally realizes he has to go on with his life and then he meets a girl (that he actually ignored earlier in the movie) that will tolerate his weirdness.

While it was a good movie I didn't like that this poor schmuck only has eyes for his brother in law's niece.  Kind of creepy and gross.  The girl that is actually interested in him is another 20 something and all I could think of is why would this girl want a 40 year old schmuck.

Day 6--Mad Dog and Glory (1993)

I am way too sleepy to actually pay attention to this movie.  Mad Dog is played by Robert DeNiro and he plays a quiet/shy cop that saves  mob boss Bill Murray from getting killed.  To return the favor Bill sends one of his girls to "be friends" with DeNiro.

David Caruso plays buddy cop and isn't annoying in this movie like he is in CSI: Miami. Bill Murray is kind of a bad ass as a mob boss.

Not a bad movie but not girly enough for me.

Day 5--Playing by Heart (1998)

This is one of those films that has a bunch of little stories that turns out every story is connected one way or another.  You have everyone from Jon Stewart to Angelina Jolie.  You have the classic story-lines of people cheating on each other to a man that is dying from AIDS.

All stories are heart wrenching and I almost cried.

This movie brought back how big of a storyline AIDS was back then.  I instantly remembered how for the longest time every dramatic movie had someone dying of AIDS, every other commercial was about protecting oneself from HIV and AIDS and then somewhere along the way that all disappeared.  I just thought it was weird that I thought of that.

I kind of didn't expect the ending when everything gets tied up and you figure out all the connections so that was a pleasant surprise. The only thing is that this movie left me confused.  I'm pretty sure I didn't hear some of the things Ryan Phillipe or Sean Connery said so I think I added some extra drama to their story lines in my head.

I give it a better than average rating.  It was a better movie than the romcoms I adore but it was kind of depressing.  I didn't quite agree that it was Seductively Funny or Hilarious....

Day 4--Serious Moonlight (2009)

Tonight's movie was a fun find.  I never heard of it before and it was an enjoyable experience.

Psycho Louise (Meg Ryan) finds out her husband is going to leave her and go off to Paris with a 24 year old strumpet.  So instead of crying and letting her husband go she duct tapes him up and keeps him hostage until he falls back in love with her or until something else happens.  Best part is Justin Long's performance.

The movie gets a better than average rating.  I cheered for Meg Ryan when she gets her husband back and stupid (but pretty) Kristen Bell gets the boot but at the same time why would a woman want a man back that has been cheating on her for over a year?  What a scumbag.

I suppose I could give hearts as ratings.  Just thought of that right now.  I'll have to go revise my other posts now.

Day 3--The Sweetest Thing (2002)

When this came out I think Danielle and I went to go see it or we rented it for a girls night in.  I remember thinking this movie was so in your face about how some women might talk with their girlfriends about sex.  It was cool to a then 22 year old. Watching it last night I realized how much this movie sucks.

All I really have to say is that it has Cameron Diaz in it. And she sucks.

The whole movie follows Christina Walters (Cameron Diaz) and her friends as they move from that awkward transition time of being party girls to wanting to settle down but not before they go through as many men as they can. This movie has it all...like dancing and singing numbers and a scene where Selma Blair's character gets something stuck in her throat.  While a ton of people are trying to help poor Jane (Selma Blair) and her boyfriend get free from each other her friends try to make her relax her throat by singing. Eventually all the onlookers burst into "I don't want to miss a thing".

This movie gets a bleh.

Day 2--Career Opportunities (1991)

I decided to watch the movie while ManFriend was at school for his studygroup. This movie should really be called Jennifer Connelly's Boobs.  No wonder Mr. Katohater applauded her role in this film.  For the last half of the movie Jennifer is running around in a tight tank top with no bra underneath.

While this movie follows the nerd getting the pretty rich popular girl romance story it isn't my favorite John Hughes movie. That title will forever go to Sixteen Candles.

Standout performances go to Dermot Mulroney as a sleazy scumbag thief. Kudos should also go to Jennifer Connelly's boobs and eyebrows.

Since there wasn't any overall feeling of joy that the guy got the girl or any crying on my behalf this film gets an average rating.

Day 1--Breakfast at Tiffany's (1961)

I don't know what Shoot The Hostage is watching but I didn't see that Career Opportunities movie. Maybe I'll watch it later. Nope, instead I was busy snoozing away.

My 28 days started this morning with watching Breakfast at Tiffany's.  I've seen it a couple times before and never really understood why it is such a classic.  It centers around Holly Golightly, a young society girl living in New York that is only interested in meeting a rich guy and marrying him. The new handsome upstairs neighbor starts a friendly relationship with Holly and they fall in love, eventually. A bunch of other stuff happens in between like Holly Golightly's real past, her connection to a druglord, and a lot of smoking in practically every scene.

While the whole movie has a ridiculously stylish Audrey Hepburn there are a few things that upstage her. The cat for one was the only thing I felt bad for.  There was a scene where she shoos her cat out of the cab onto the cold heartless streets of New York to set it free.  The cat is drenched in the rain looking pathetic and sad.  Heartbreaking I tell you.  The only other thing I felt bad for in a "OMG how RACIST!" way was Mickey Rooney's character Mr. Yunioshi.  Because it must have been really hard to get a real Japanese character to play the comic relief guy.  Oh 1960's racism.

While being a classic romance based on a novella by Truman Capote I give the movie an "Eh..." If a movie makes me angry because the girl thinks happiness can only come by being married to a rich guy then it doesn't deserve a higher rating.
