All day I've been checking facebook for updates on the protests in downtown Tucson. Even though a judge has blocked parts of the bill there are many that believe the fight isn't over. Read about it if you want.
So while at work I kept looking for updates. One of our friends has recently become a big activist here in town. Usually through this friend we find out about the protests, rallies, charity events and other political going ons in Tucson. Around noon he kept asking for people to show up soon to the protest because something big was going to happen. The big event was bringing the peaceful protest out in the street. The local news stations were all devoted to the protest for the 5 and 6pm newscasts. It was amazing! Some protesters were arrested and those arrested peacefully went with the cops. After a while of arresting people one by one the bicycle cops started using their bikes as a blockade to move the protesters back to the street corners. As the people went back to the corners the cops were trying to figure out their next step. The next thing we see are 20 or more people on bikes riding down one of the blocked off streets and riding around in circles almost taunting the cops to come get them. Things calmed down after that.
The protests were meant to get attention and to show the state that the fighting isn't over.
While showing live footage of the protest the news anchors were reading emails, tweets, and fb postings from the viewers. One of the most common things I keep reading and hearing is "for all the illegals to go back home". "All the illegals" include people from every race, ethnicity, religion, size, shape, color, as well legal and illegal.
