We have this weird plant in our backyard that just shot up in a short amount of time. When we first moved in back in October the plant was about 6 inches high if that and now its taller than me. We've been wondering what this thing is because even though it looks pretty its kind of in the way of the water spigot and it kind of freaks me out to have my hand touch the plant.So I went online today and found that this looks a hell of a lot like the Tree Tobacco or Nicotiana glauca. Poisonous to ingest and has some nicotine like quality to it.
Now I don't feel bad about chopping it down.
I do love the bougainvilleas though....I need to clean it up and take away the dead branches so it will be happy!

yeah i had one of those in my yard at two places. i thought it was a sunflower and waited and waited for it to bloom beautifully and it just made these crappy little yellow flowers. that was the end of them.
